OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) - Hundreds of federal aviation workers in Oklahoma are part of a union that’s sued the U.S. government over the partial shutdown and employees on the job but not getting paid.
The lawsuit filed by the National Air Traffic Controllers Association says some members are working but not getting paid in violation of due process, The Oklahoman reported Saturday . The lawsuit was filed Friday in federal court in Washington, D.C.
At the Mike Monroney Aeronautical Center, in southwest Oklahoma City, 1,146 federal employees are furloughed and 593 are working without pay, along with federal contractors and support staff, according to the newspaper.
The union represents engineers, architects, contracting officers, inspectors, accountants and a lawyer at the center. Some Federal Aviation Administration workers received pay stubs that show a net salary of $0 for the past two weeks.
“Defendants’ unlawful failure to pay plaintiffs and those similarly situated has and continues to have a devastating effect on those devoted federal employees’ lives,” the lawsuit says.
Saturday was Day 22 of a partial government shutdown, becoming the longest closure in U.S. history.
The U.S. House and Senate have passed a bill requiring that all government workers receive retroactive pay after the partial shutdown ends. All members of Oklahoma’s delegation voted in favor of the bill, which was sent to President Donald Trump.
