WILMINGTON, Del. (AP) - A Delaware county will pay $48,000 to a man who sued local officers over excessive force and civil rights violations when he was arrested not far from the home of then-Vice President Joe Biden.

New Castle County doesn’t acknowledge fault and the officers are released from liability in the settlement disclosed Friday.

The News Journal of Wilmington reports Rock Peters sued the officers for his 2015 arrest after he drove to a police roadblock installed after a report of shots fired near Biden’s home.

Peters’ attorney alleged one of the officers sued had punched and choked Peters, who suffered injuries. County officials denied wrongdoing. Court documents show the officer denied choking Peter but said he took him to the ground because Peters had taken an “aggressive stance” and reached in his pocket after exiting the vehicle.
