President Trump appointed former Reagan administration official Charles Kupperman Friday to serve as a top aide to national security adviser John R. Bolton.
“Charlie Kupperman has been an advisor to me for more than thirty years, including during my tenure as national security adviser to President Trump,” Mr. Bolton said in a statement. “Charlie’s extensive expertise in defense, arms control and aerospace will help further President Trump’s national security agenda.”
Mr. Kupperman, a former executive at Boeing and Lockheed Martin, will have the titles of assistant to the president and deputy national security adviser.
His appointment comes less than two months after Mr. Bolton’s first deputy, Mira Ricardel, was ousted from the post following public criticism by first lady Melania Trump.
The White House said Mr. Kupperman “brings to the role more than four decades of national security policy and program experience.”
In the Reagan administration, he held jobs in the White House, the National Aeronautics and Space Administration, and the President’s General Advisory Committee on Arms Control and Disarmament.
