Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez’ congressional campaign was fined $1,500 for not having workers’ compensation coverage for one month last year, the New York Daily News reported Friday.
Melissa Stewart, a state Workers Compensation Board spokeswoman, told the Daily News that the Ocasio-Cortez campaign coverage lasted from March 31 to April 30 last year and it already paid the fine.
“This coverage is vital to ensuring workers are protected for on-the-job injuries,” Ms. Stewart said.
The Washington Times reached out to Ms. Ocasio-Cortez’ chief of staff for comment.
The Democratic lawmaker has soared to fame since her surprising primary win against former long-time Rep. Joe Crowley and has become a lightning rod for progressive issues, including workers rights.
