MASHANTUCKET, Conn. (AP) - The tribe that owns and operates the Foxwoods Resort Casino has announced the appointment of a new treasurer.

The Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation said Thursday that Merrill “Marvin” Reels has been named treasurer effective immediately.

Reels began a three-year term on the tribal council in January 2017. He also chairs the tribe’s finance and public safety committees.

Tribal chairman Rodney Butler says Reels “will help the Tribe maintain financial stability while maximizing our business and economic growth opportunities.”

Reels is a nephew of Kenny Reels, a former tribal chairman. The last treasurer, Jean Swift, did not seek re-election to the council in last November’s elections.
