RUTLAND, Vt. (AP) - A Vermont GE Aviation facility is going to benefit from a $517 million contract from the U.S. Army to build parts for Blackhawk and Apache helicopter test engines.

GE Aviation’s Dave Wilson tells the Rutland Herald that the GE Aviation plant in Rutland will build some of the key components for the engine.

Wilson says this contract alone won’t require an increase in hiring, but it means plenty of work for the Rutland plant over the next several years.

He says more workers will be hired if GE is chosen to produce the engine on a large scale.

GE Aviation employs about 1,200 people in Vermont.
