President Trump late Friday said he plans to meet with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un in the Vietnamese city of Hanoi on Feb. 27 and 28.
Mr. Trump announced the host nation and dates during his State of the Union Address on Tuesday, though it was unclear which city would host the second summit between the leaders.
“I look forward to seeing Chairman Kim & advancing the cause of peace!” Mr. Trump said in announcing the details on Twitter.
The coastal city of Danang had been floated, but Mr. Trump said his representatives and the North Korean decided on the capital of the communist country.
Mr. Trump says he is making headway in scaling back North Korea’s nuclear ambitions, even arguing if it weren’t for his election, there’d be war.
He has touted progress since his meeting last year with Mr. Kim in Singapore, suggesting he resolved the threat—though experts say there is work to be done to get a full-scale commitment from the repressive regime.
Mr. Trump says Mr. Kim should be enticed by the economic promise of emerging from its reclusive status.
“North Korea, under the leadership of Kim Jong Un, will become a great Economic Powerhouse,” Mr. Trump said. “He may surprise some but he won’t surprise me, because I have gotten to know him & fully understand how capable he is. North Korea will become a different kind of Rocket — an Economic one!”
