Rep. Doug Collins, ranking member of the House Judiciary Committee, said Friday that acting Attorney General Matthew G. Whitaker’s hearing is “nothing more than a character assassination.”
Mr. Collins, Georgia Republican, blasted his Democratic colleagues for hauling Mr. Whitaker before the committee, calling it “a dog and pony show.” He noted that William Barr, President Trump’s pick to be attorney general, will be confirmed next week, rendering the hearing meaningless.
“By next Thursday, Bill Barr will be attorney general,” Mr. Collins said. “This gentleman is finishing up his term as acting attorney general.”
