OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) - Oklahoma Gov. Kevin Stitt says he would like to see more diversity on the board of regents at the University of Oklahoma, which has been rocked by a series of racist incidents in recent years.
Stitt said Thursday that he’s aware the seven-member board doesn’t have an African-American member and that he wants a board that better reflects the diversity of OU’s campus. A recent report on the university’s enrollment shows that about 33 percent of students on the Norman campus identify as a racial minority.
The chairman of the board, Clay Bennett, resigned last week, citing health concerns. His vacancy gives Stitt his first appointment to the panel.
Stitt says it’s important that whoever he appoints to the panel have business experience and a love for the university.
