NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) - One person was killed and others needed to be rescued in Tennessee as pounding rains caused flooding.

The Cheatham County Sheriff’s Office posted on Facebook on Wednesday night that one person was swept away and confirmed dead. Cheatham County Sheriff Mike Breedlove told The Tennessean that the 53-year-old woman was at a relative’s house and went to move her car parked on the other side of a bridge.

Nashville’s Emergency Operations Center tweeted about multiple rescue operations overnight of people in cars stuck in flooded areas.

The National Weather Service in Nashville measured four inches of rain Wednesday, breaking the previous Feb. 6 record of 1.73 inches in 1884. It also exceeds the city’s average rainfall total for the month of February of 3.94 inches.
