LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (AP) - A committee appointed to conduct a feasibility study is recommending that the University of Arkansas at Little Rock hold off on re-establishing a football program.

The committee began studying the issue after students presented a petition in 2017 calling for the addition of football.

In a report released Wednesday, the committee says the university should instead focus on improving and investing in its 15 existing athletic programs, including a new wrestling program that will begin this fall. The panel also said any addition of a football program should be part of a long-term, strategic master plan.

The university last played football in 1955, when the school was called Little Rock Junior College.
