SALT LAKE CITY (AP) - University of Utah medical residency students held a teary-eyed vigil for a classmate from San Francisco who authorities say was killed by her boyfriend in a murder-suicide.

The Salt Lake Tribune reports that they told stories Monday night about 27-year-old Sarah Hawley being an “adventurer” who liked to go on hikes and organized a “Friendsgiving” for residency students.A slide show played with pictures of Hawley gardening, rock climbing, cooking, hiking and playing with Legos at a hospital.

Classmate Sara Walker says Hawley will be greatly missed. She says Hawley was a wonderful doctor who focused on women’s health, pediatric care and wilderness medicine. Hawley graduated from medical school at the University of California, San Francisco

Police say Hawley was killed by boyfriend Travis Geddes in their Salt Lake City home on Jan. 27. The investigation into what happened and why is ongoing.
