SANTA TERESA, N.M. (AP) - New Mexico State Police say a pregnant woman and her unborn child have died after a head-on car crash near Santa Teresa.

They say 34-year-old Cynthia Gamboa of Chaparral was driving on State Road 136 about 10 p.m. on Jan. 31 when her vehicle crossed the center line and collided with another car.

State Police say Gamboa was about 35 weeks pregnant.

Gamboa was airlifted to a hospital in El Paso, Texas where authorities say she and her unborn child were pronounced dead on Feb. 1.

State Police say alcohol doesn’t appear to be a contributing factor in the crash, but seat belts weren’t properly used.

They say the 20-year-old driver of the other vehicle was taken to a hospital for treatment.
