SEATTLE (AP) - Several schools in the Seattle area are delayed or canceled after more than an inch (2.54 centimeters) of snow hit the region overnight.
The Seattle Times reports all public schools are closed Monday in Seattle, Lake Washington, Kent, Federal Way, Bellevue, Highline, Shoreline, Renton, Bellingham and Port Townsend.
A two-hour delay was announced for Tacoma. The Vashon school district is starting 2 1/2 hours late.
The first flakes were spotted in King and Pierce counties.
Forecasters say the showery nature of the storm was likely to bring varied accumulations, with some areas receiving as little as half an inch of snow. The National Weather Service says accumulations in the northern Olympic Peninsula were forecast to reach between 1 inch (2.54 centimeters) and 4 inches (10.16 centimeters).
