PORTLAND, Maine (AP) - City councilors in Portland, Maine are reviewing changes to zoning rules that could allow marijuana retailers to sell regular food and drinks on site.
The Portland Press Herald reports the current zoning proposal would prohibit retailers from selling food or drink that does not contain marijuana.
The proposal was recommended to avoid customer confusion and prevent illegal social clubs.
Mark Barnett says he would have to shut down his planned business of selling marijuana alongside local coffee and teas based on the current proposal.
City Councilor Belinda Ray is seeking to undo the prohibition, saying retailers would have to be vigilant to prevent on-site use.
City Council is scheduled to vote on the zoning rule Monday night, along with rules related to testing and marijuana grow locations.
