PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) - U.S. Rep. David Cicilline (sihs-ihl-EE’-nee) has invited an air traffic controller who worked without pay during the partial government shutdown to the State of the Union address.
The Rhode Island Democrat said Monday that Jamie Green, of Middletown, worked for 35 days without pay at Rhode Island’s T. F. Green Airport.
President Donald Trump’s address is scheduled for Tuesday. Trump shut down the government to try to get funding to build a wall on the U.S.-Mexico border. He signed a short-term deal in late January to end the shutdown, which caused 800,000 federal employees to miss two paychecks.
Cicilline says he hopes Green’s attendance reminds the president that “his reckless governing style comes with a human toll attached.”
Green’s husband also works in air traffic control.
