CAMBRIDGE, Mass. (AP) - Harvard University has received a $100 million donation to help build a new arts and performance space in Boston.
School officials on Thursday announced the gift from hedge fund manager David Goel and his wife, Stacey. Harvard says the donation will begin an effort to fund a new arts center that will house the American Repertory Theater, a professional theater based at Harvard.
It marks a further expansion into Boston’s Allston neighborhood, which already houses Harvard’s business school and a planned science complex. The school’s art and theater programs are currently located on its Cambridge campus.
Harvard President Larry Bacow said the donation will support one of Harvard’s “most exciting projects to advance the arts.” David Goel is a 1993 Harvard graduate and co-founder of Matrix Capital Management Company.
