NEW ORLEANS (AP) - A former Louisiana district attorney has been ordered to report to prison by April 1.

Walter Reed is the former prosecutor for St. Tammany and Washington parishes. He was convicted nearly three years ago for mail fraud, wire fraud, lying on his income tax returns and other charges.

The case included allegations that Reed used campaign money for personal use.

He was sentenced to four years in prison. A federal appeals court rejected his appeal.

Reed had hoped to remain free pending a Supreme Court appeal. But New Orleans news outlets report that U.S. District Judge Eldon Fallon agreed with federal prosecutors that he should begin serving the sentence in April.
