CRANSTON, R.I. (AP) - The Cranston City Council says it will not pursue legal action over new wind turbines in neighboring Johnston.

The Providence Journal reports that Council President Michael Farina said Monday he recommends residents take up legal action on their own.

He says the residents should sue Johnston for violating open meeting laws.

Cranston residents say they were not notified the wind farm would be built. They say the turbines are an eyesore and could negatively impact property values.

State law only requires property owners within 200 feet of such a project be notified, and the turbines are 1.4 miles away from the closest neighborhood in Cranston.

Johnston Mayor Joseph Polisena says all meetings were open to the public.

He says those who are upset are “making things up as they go along.”
