MONTPELIER, Vt. (AP) - The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency says it plans to do comprehensive reviews of site cleanups at six federally designated Superfund sites in Vermont.

The designation allows federal resources to be used to clean up the contamination.

The agency said Thursday that this year it plans to work on the required five-year reviews at the Bennington Municipal Sanitary Landfill; the BFI Sanitary Landfill in Rockingham; the Elizabeth Mine in Strafford; Parker Sanitary Landfill in Lyndon, and the Pownal Tannery in Pownal. The findings will be posted on the EPA website once the review is complete.

Vermont Department of Environmental Conservation Commissioner Emily Boedecker says the five-year reviews are important because they help make sure remedies are still protective.
