PITTSBURGH (AP) - Officials say a home that collapsed in Pittsburgh had been condemned after it was ordered evacuated a year ago amid landslides affecting the region.
The city says no one was injured in Friday’s collapse of the structure in the Perry North neighborhood.
Officials say the home wasn’t demolished after it was condemned because the hillside was unstable and it wasn’t safe for contractors to work there. They said demolishing the building could have further eroded the hillside, endangering other structures on the street.
The home next-door to the collapsed structure has also been condemned.
Officials say plans to stabilize the hillside are to be completed in three months.
Landslides have surged in Pittsburgh and other western Pennsylvania communities following record rainfall over the past 18 months.
