LAS VEGAS (AP) - Las Vegas officials have struck down a proposal that would have allowed more short-term rentals to operate in condominium buildings and other multifamily complexes.
The Las Vegas Sun reports the city council voted Wednesday against the amendment that would have permitted up to 5 percent of a complex’s units to be rented out for fewer than 31 days.
The council in December approved an ordinance that requires homeowners to remain at their property if they rent it out for brief periods. It also limited the number of short-term rentals allowed in areas.
Councilman Bob Coffin’s amendment would have eliminated the owner-occupancy requirement for multifamily developments.
He says his proposal would have corrected the previous ordinance’s “overreach.” He says the previous measure punishes owners looking to earn rental income.
