LAS VEGAS (AP) - A winter storm is expected to drop up to 3 inches (8 centimeters) of snow on Las Vegas’ southern and western outskirts while other parts of the metro area will get rain mixed with snow.

The National Weather Service says the “potent and cold” low pressure system was expected to begin affecting metro Las Vegas Wednesday night and continue into Friday morning.

Forecasters said accumulating snow could make driving hazardous by covering roadways and limiting visibility, including along Interstate 15 between Mesquite on the California-Nevada border and Primm on the Utah-Nevada border, a 123-mile (198-kilometer)stretch that includes Las Vegas.
