PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) - Child welfare officials in Rhode Island say a 1-year-old was brought to the hospital last week and her condition was probably the result of “maltreatment.”
The state Department of Children Youth and Families announced Wednesday that the Pawtucket girl was admitted to Hasbro Children’s Hospital on Friday.
The department investigated and determined that “the child’s condition is likely to have been caused by maltreatment.”
The agency did not disclose the nature of the girl’s condition.
The girl’s family had no prior involvement with the child welfare agency.
In accordance with state law, the department notified the Office of the Child Advocate.
