ATLANTA (AP) - A company that cleans the interior of passenger planes for Delta Air Lines says it’s laying off more than 1,100 workers in Atlanta as the airline switches to a new contractor to perform the job.

ABM Aviation says in a letter to the Georgia Department of Labor it will “cease providing cabin cleaning and janitorial services” for Delta at its Atlanta hub beginning April 12, when another company takes over the contract.

ABM spokeswoman Jennifer Miller said in an email to The Associated Press that employees being laid off can apply for other jobs with ABM. She said it’s also possible the company taking over cleaning services for Delta’s fleet at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport may hire some workers who had done the job for ABM.
