The Washington Capitals are donating one of their Stanley Cup rings to the Hockey Hall of Fame on Wednesday.
The Hall of Fame is in Toronto, where the team is spending a day off before its game Thursday against the Toronto Maple Leafs.
Coach Todd Reirden, captain Alex Ovechkin, alternate captains Nicklas Backstrom and Brooks Orpik and other select players will attend a ceremony Wednesday afternoon. Philip Pritchard, the Hall of Fame’s vice president who’s best known as “the keeper of the Cup,” will lead the proceedings.
Because Capitals fans surely never tire of seeing the rings, here’s a refresher on what it looks like, complete with 252 diamonds and 35 rubies:
