GULFPORT, Miss. (AP) - Officials with a Mississippi hospital say some patients’ Social Security numbers and other information was part of an employee email account accessed by a third party.

Janet Stuart with Memorial Hospital at Gulfport says the email account contained information on about 30,000 patients, including names, birthdates, medical history and health insurance information. A statement says Social Security numbers were listed for a “limited number” of those patients.

News outlets report the third party accessed the email account Dec. 6. The hospital learned of the breach Dec. 17. Stuart says nothing has indicated to Memorial that the information contained in the email account was misused.

The hospital advised patients to review their health care provider and insurance statements to ensure they received the services listed. Memorial says it’s investigating the breach.
