CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) - Kemba Walker will have the crowd on his side Sunday when the Hornets guard takes his home court as part of the NBA All-Star Game in Charlotte.
Walker is part of Team Giannis, selected by Milwaukee’s Giannis Antetokounmpo (YAH’-nihs an-teh-toh-KAHM’-poh). The Los Angeles Lakers’ LeBron James put together Team LeBron.
The league’s annual showcase exhibition always comes with subplots, and this year, the one where New Orleans Pelicans star Anthony Davis just asked for a trade that didn’t come seemed to generate more All-Star weekend buzz than anything else.
The game will include two players invited by Commissioner Adam Silver to commemorate their NBA careers: Dallas’ Dirk Nowitzki nor Miami’s Dwyane Wade.
Nowitzki is in his 21st season, all with the Mavericks, and hasn’t officially said he’s retiring. Wade is retiring after 16 seasons, most of them with the Heat.
