CONCORD, N.H. (AP) - Members of New Hampshire’s Democratic congressional delegation are against President Donald Trump’s decision to use billions of dollars from federal military construction and counterdrug efforts to pay for a wall along the U.S.-Mexico border.

Trump declared a national emergency Friday to pursue the funds, planning to bypass Congress and use executive action. Congresswoman Annie Kuster said his “fake national emergency is the true threat to our national security.”

Sen. Jeanne Shaheen said Trump is diverting money for projects that could potentially include the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard and the New Hampshire National Guard to erect a “costly and ineffective” border wall that he promised Mexico would pay for.

Sen. Maggie Hassan called Trump’s attempt to take federal dollars from drug interdiction efforts for the project “unconscionable and completely backward.”
