The Washington Nationals traded right-handed pitcher Trevor Gott to the San Francisco Giants for cash considerations, the team announced.
Gott, 26, was designated for assignment last week when the Nationals re-signed pitcher Jeremy Hellickson. The team needed to make room for Hellickson on the 40-man roster, so they designated Gott.
A relief pitcher, Gott appeared in 33 games for the Nationals over the last three seasons, and pitched just 19 innings in 20 appearances in 2018. He went 0-2 with no saves but finished five games on cleanup duty.
The trade means Gott receives a new opportunity in San Francisco.
