Rep. Ilhan Omar of Minnesota pushed back against President Trump’s calls for her resignation on Wednesday and accused him of “trafficking” in hate.
“Hi @realDonaldTrump- You have trafficked in hate your whole life—against Jews, Muslims, Indigenous, immigrants, black people and more. I learned from people impacted by my words. When will you?” she tweeted.
The Democratic congresswoman’s comments came one day after Mr. Trump dismissed her apology for making anti-Semitic comments and demanded she resign from office.
“It’s terrible what she said, and I think she should either resign from Congress, or she should certainly resign from the House Foreign Affairs Committee,” he told reporters on Tuesday.
Ms. Omar’s apologized for her tweets that implied U.S. lawmakers were being bribed with campaign contributions to support Israel, though she reaffirmed her criticism of the American Israel Public Affairs Committee.
“Anti-Semitism is real and I am grateful for Jewish allies and colleagues who are educating me on the painful history of anti-Semitic tropes,” Ms. Omar wrote in a statement. “My intention is never to offend my constituents or Jewish Americans as a whole.”
