NEW ORLEANS (AP) - A Louisiana man has been ordered to repay $134,000 in disability payments after federal prosecutors said he made false statement to the Social Security Administration.

The U.S. Attorney’s office said in a news release that 68-year-old James Briant of Covington was sentenced last week.

Briant was also placed on three years of probation.

Prosecutors say Briant applied for disability benefits from the Social Security Administration in 2010 for a back problem and heart disease. Prosecutors say he began receiving monthly disability benefits of nearly $2,400 per month in 2011. He was supposed to report any other income.

Prosecutors say Briant began working as a loan officer and mortgage broker in Mandeville in 2012, earning a salary. The prosecutors say he worked there into 2017 and never reported his income.
