FRAMINGHAM, Mass. (AP) - A former Uber driver from Massachusetts charged with sexually assaulting a passenger has pleaded not guilty.

Jose Arevalos-Avalos, of Holliston, was allowed to remain free on $3,000 bail after entering his plea Monday to charges of indecent assault and battery and attempting to pay for sexual conduct.

The woman told Ashland police she was getting a ride to work on Friday when her Uber driver offered her $100 for sex. Police say the 37-year-old Arevalos-Avalos groped the woman after she refused. Uber helped police identify the driver through the woman’s Uber app.

An attorney for Arevalos-Avalos says his client has given thousands of rides for Uber without any issues.

An Uber spokeswoman called the allegations “deeply upsetting” and says Arevalos-Avalos has been banned from the app.
