President Trump said Monday night that Democratic Rep. Ilhan Omar “should be ashamed of herself” for saying that lawmakers’ support for Israel was influenced by money.

“I think it was a terrible statement,” the president told reporters aboard Air Force One. “I think she should be ashamed of herself. And I don’t think her apology was adequate.”

Ms. Omar, of Minnesota, apologized Monday for tweeting that lawmakers’ support of Israel is “all about the Benjamins,” a reference to cash.

She apologized under pressure from Democratic leaders, but hours retweeted a thread defending her claim that campaign contributions from the American Israel Public Affairs Committee buy support for the group’s positions.
