PHOENIX (AP) - Conservative writer Ben Shapiro will speak at Grand Canyon University after a tussle between the school and a campus group that invited him.

The Arizona Republic reported last week that Shapiro will visit the university on April 10, according to a tweet from the Young America’s Foundation.

Shapiro and the school also confirmed the news.

University officials initially rescinded an invitation on Feb. 1 for Shapiro to talk, saying they wanted a speaker who would focus on political unity.

Their decision sparked a furor among conservative media.

The school reversed course five days later and re-invited Shapiro.

But officials said it would no longer work with the GCU chapter of the Young America’s Foundation.

The group, meanwhile, claims the school ceased discussions after a clash over a planned joint statement.
