INDIANAPOLIS (AP) - A light snowfall caught central Indiana motorists unprepared, leading to multiple crashes and some temporary road closures.
Indiana State Police Sgt. John Perrine posted on Twitter that by nearly 5 p.m., troopers from the Indianapolis Post had responded to 59 crashes, including six with injuries, and 15 slide-offs.
Indianapolis television stations reported southbound lanes of Interstate 65 were closed in two separate locations Sunday afternoon, on the north side of Indianapolis and in Boone County north of Lebanon.
Police in the Hamilton County city of Westfield reported southbound U.S. 31 was closed Sunday at the intersection with Indiana 38 because of a crash.
Crashes were reported on interstates throughout the Indianapolis area.
The National Weather Service reported 1.1 inches (2.8 centimeters) of snow had fallen by about 4 p.m. Sunday.
