Fox News fans finally have an answer as to who will take Shepard Smith’s place as host of the 3 p.m. ET news hour: Bill Hemmer.

The host of “America’s Newsroom” will move to the afternoon slot in the wake of Mr. Smith’s October departure from the cable news giant.

“As a journalist, l am extremely grateful for this opportunity,” Mr. Hemmer said in a statement, Mediaite first reported. “2020 will undoubtedly be a year of great significance. Leading our breaking news division with a signature hour has enormous value to me, personally, and to our audience. We’ve got a fantastic team here and I am excited to get to work.”

Fox News President Jay Wallace said his colleagues were “thrilled to have him lead lead our news division” for the 2020 election season, entertainment website THR reported

Mr. Hemmer, a longtime star for the network, will begin his new role Jan. 20.
