HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) - There’s a new online portal in Connecticut that will allow notaries to handle their licensing needs with a few keyboard strokes.

Democratic Secretary of the State Denise Merrill has unveiled a new, online portal that allows notaries to apply for new state licenses, renew active licenses and reinstate expired licenses. All licenses will then be delivered by email to the notary within three business days.

“Allowing notaries public to apply for new licenses and renew old licenses online makes the process simpler, easier and faster,” said Merrill, who likened the change to online voter registration. “Allowing notaries to apply online removes barriers and makes becoming and remaining a notary more convenient.”

Notaries serve as an official, impartial witness and are used to sign off on various documents.
