WICHITA, Kan. (AP) - A Wichita man has been arrested in the shooting death of another man, police said Saturday.
Chevy Jones, 25, of Wichita, was arrested Friday evening and charged with first-degree murder and other counts in the Tuesday shooting death of 31-year-old Robert Junior, also of Wichita.
Jones was arrested after a brief confrontation and chase when officers spotted him in a car and tried to stop him, police said. Instead of stopping, Jones accelerated and rammed his car into a police lieutenant’s cruiser, police said. He then fled on foot.
Jones was caught and arrested a short time later, police said, and officers found a handgun on him.
The police lieutenant whose car was rammed suffered minor injuries and treated at a local hospital. Police said they suspected Jones had ingested narcotics, and he was taken to an area hospital for treatment before being released and booked into jail.
Jones also faces charges of aggravated battery, criminal possession of a firearm and obstruction. Police said he also had other outstanding warrants.
Junior was found by officers with gunshot wounds at a home on Tuesday. He was rushed to a local hospital, where he died. Police have said the shooting was not a random act.
