COMMERCE TOWNSHIP, Mich. (AP) - A rapper who was part of Eminem’s Shady Records has been arrested after an 18-year-old man was shot at a Detroit-area home, authorities said Friday.
The Oakland County Sheriff’s Office said Obie Trice, 42, was jailed after deputies took him into custody and secured a pistol he was ordered to drop. Officials say Trice and his girlfriend were fighting at the Commerce Township home and the woman’s son intervened.
As the woman and her son tried to leave the home, Trice retrieved a gun and it discharged during a struggle between him and the teen, a sheriff’s release said. The 18-year-old was shot in the groin and fractured his pelvis. He was taken to a hospital and later released.
The pistol recovered from the scene is unregistered, officials said. Trice remained jailed Friday afternoon and it wasn’t immediately clear if he has an attorney.
Trice was shot while driving on a Detroit-area highway in December 2005. Sheriff’s officials said he was convicted of assault and battery in 2002.
