BALLSTON SPA, N.Y. (AP) - A man has been charged with second-degree manslaughter in upstate New York for failing to care for his ailing mother, officials said.
Richard Carr III, 28, is accused of not taking care of his mother, Muriel Carr, 64, who died in January, according to the Saratoga County Sheriff’s Office.
Muriel Carr, of Galway, had suffered multiple strokes over the years and was bedridden, forcing her son to take care of her. Deputies said Richard Carr didn’t take care of his mother so her health deteriorated.
Richard Carr called an ambulance to take his mother to the hospital where staff found she was suffering from infected open wounds, sepsis, hypothermia and bed sores. She died shortly after arriving at the hospital.
Richard Carr was arrested in South Carolina and brought back to New York earlier this week. He was indicted on charges of second-degree manslaughter and endangering the welfare of a vulnerable elderly person.
