CLEVELAND (AP) - The former board president of the Cleveland area’s transit agency pleaded guilty Tuesday to a felony theft in office charge for failing to pay health insurance premiums to the agency.
A plea agreement for George Dixon III, 66, calls for him to repay the Greater Cleveland Regional Transit Authority $132,000 and for Dixon to continue cooperating with ongoing RTA investigations, defense attorney Kevin Spellacy said.
Sentencing is scheduled for Jan. 8. Prosecutors have recommended that Dixon receive no prison time, Cleveland.com reported.
Dixon pleaded guilty in July. He resigned as board president in March 2018 as the agency investigated why he had received health benefits for years without paying premiums. Dixon served as RTA board president for 24 years.
The current RTA board is considering whether to apply term limits for future board presidents.
