Additional criminal charges are “likely” to be filed against two associates of President Trump’s personal attorney Rudolph Giuliani, The New York Times reported Tuesday.
The associates, Lev Parnas and Igor Fruman, have already pleaded not guilty to four counts of campaign finance laws violations. They were arrested in October and prosecutors say they concealed their foreign political donations to advance their business interests.
At a hearing Monday in New York, federal prosecutor Douglas S. Zolkind said more charges could come, The Times reported
“We think a superseding indictment is likely, but no decision has been made,” Mr. Zolkind said, according to the Times.
A superseding indictment could add to or update the existing charges.
Mr. Zolkind said Mr. Parnas is still under investigation for additional crimes, The Times reported.
Mr. Parnas and Mr. Fruman are key figures in Mr. Trump’s push to have Ukrainian government officials investigate 2020 Democratic presidential front-runner Joseph R. Biden and his son Hunter.
The pair worked in Ukraine to help Mr. Giuliani dig up dirt on the Bidens. However, none of the charges against the two are related to their work in Ukraine.
