The Washington Redskins fired their coach earlier this season. Now, they’ve played a part in the dismissal of another one.

The Carolina Panthers fired coach Ron Rivera on Tuesday, days after the team’s loss to the Redskins. Carolina is in the midst of a four-game losing streak and also ended last year losing six of its last seven.

Owner David Tepper, who purchased the team in 2018, made the move weeks after he told reporters he would not settle for mediocrity.

Rivera spent nine seasons in Carolina, taking them to the Super Bowl during the 2015 season. He went 76-63-1 overall.

The Panthers announced defensive backs coach Perry Fewell will take over as the interim.

Offensive coordinator and former Redskins coach Norv Turner was also re-assigned to a “special assistant to the head coach.” Quarterbacks coach Scott Turner will become the new offensive coordinator.
