DALLAS — Bruce Allen will no longer be in charge of football operations for the Washington Redskins on Monday, according to a new report.
NBC Sports Washington reported that Allen is expected to be removed from his position as team president a day after the season ends for the Redskins. Washington concludes its regular season Sunday with a game against the Dallas Cowboys.
Allen’s pending departure represents a significant shift for the Redskins, and it’s a move fans long have wanted. Since he was hired in 2009, the Redskins have gone 62-96-1 and have missed the playoffs for four straight seasons.
Allen’s exit had been rumored for weeks as he had been seen less publicly with owner Dan Snyder.
NBC’s report did not specify if Allen will be fired or reassigned to a different part of the organization. Allen also has a hand in the team’s business side, playing a role in the Redskins’ search for a new stadium. He also regained additional responsibilities after Washington fired former president of business operations Brian Lafemina last season, less than a full year on the job.
At 3-12, the Redskins are about to complete their worst season since 2014. Under Allen, the Redskins have made the playoffs just twice —- failing to win a game each appearance.
