LANDOVER — Dwayne Haskins and Daniel Jones have themselves a shootout.
The Redskins trail 28-14 at halftime against the New York Giants, but both quarterbacks have shined as the two teams punted only three times in an entertaining half of football. Haskins has thrown for 133 yards and two touchdowns for Washington, while completing 80% (12 of 15) of his passes.
Jones, the sixth overall pick in the draft, finished the half 14 of 18 for 165 yards with three touchdowns.
The two teams traded scores on consecutive possessions before New York took the lead with 9:16 left in the second quarter. In addition to Jones, Washington has been unable to stop running back Saquon Barkley, who racked up 126 yards on nine carries.
The Redskins are playing with a depleted secondary as Washington spent most of the half playing with Aaron Colvin, Kayvon Webster and Coty Sensabaugh as their corners — the latter two during the week. Starter Danny Johnson, filling in for an injured Fabian Moreau, suffered a hand injury and is questionable to return.
Though the Redskins are losing, Haskins had a particularly impressive start. He completed his first 10 passes, finding Steven Sims and Hale Hentges in the end zone. This is the second straight game in which Haskins has found a rhythm, throwing for 261 yards last week against the Philadelphia Eagles.
