REHOBOTH BEACH, Del. (AP) - Officials say they are working to find a new location for a Delaware community that lost its only emergency homeless shelter.

The Daily Times reports organizers with The Immanuel Shelter are working to secure a new space after the one previously used to shelter homeless people in the Rehoboth Beach area was not made available this winter.

That building used to be provided by a church, which didn’t respond to the newspaper’s request for comment.

The closest Code Purple shelters, sites that open extra beds and warm shelter space during dangerous winter weather, are 20 to 40 minutes away.

The nonprofit said it has motel rooms available while it works to find a new building.

According to the newspaper, Sussex was the only county in Delaware this year where homelessness increased.
