Daniel Jones has missed the last two games with a high-ankle sprain, but the New York Giants rookie quarterback could be in line to return Sunday against the Washington Redskins.
Giants coach Pat Shurmur said Wednesday that Jones is “doing better” than he was last week. The 22-year-old practiced Wednesday and took the majority of first-team reps, a sign he’ll be able to play at FedEx Field.
“He’ll be able much more in practice this week,” Shurmur said, “but I think it’s still too early to kind of predict his status for Sunday.”
In Washington’s first meeting against New York back in September, Jones threw for 225 yards, a touchdown and two interceptions while completing 74% of his passes in a 24-3 win. As a whole, Jones has made 10 starts this season, starting off strong before struggling midway through the year.
Jones first suffered the ankle injury in a Week 13 loss to the Green Bay Packers.
Veteran quarterback Eli Manning has started the last two games, splitting them each to bring his career record to 117-117. The 37-year-old threw for 283 yards, two touchdowns and three interceptions in a win against the Miami Dolphins.
