LAS VEGAS (AP) - Las Vegas authorities have confirmed an armored truck fatally struck an 87-year-old man in a motorized shopping cart at a shopping center.
The Las Vegas Review-Journal reported that the crash occurred Tuesday in north Las Vegas near Bruce Woodbury Beltway.
The truck was stopped in front of an entrance to a business as the man driving the cart moved in front of the vehicle, detectives said. The man and cart were knocked to the pavement as the truck continued forward, detectives said.
Bystanders attempted to get the driver’s attention, a news release by police said.
The man was taken to University Medical Center for treatment where he later died, authorities said.
The Clark County coroner’s office expects to identify the man after his family is notified, officials said.
The driver of the armored truck stayed at the scene, authorities said.
The man’s death marks the 101st traffic-related fatality investigated this year, authorities said.
