NASHUA, N.H. (AP) - A New Hampshire mayor has given approval for refugees to resettle in his city.
Nashua Mayor Jim Donchess recently submitted his written consent to the U.S. Department of State in accordance with an executive order from the Trump administration.
The September order requires state and local governments to give approval before refugees can be housed there, the Nashua Telegraph reported.
Gov. Chris Sununu gave his consent in November.
“Families and individuals who are displaced from their homes hoping to find a new city or town to raise their children, live and work, need help getting that fresh start,” Donchess said. “Hopefully, Nashua can be a place to make that happen.”
Manchester, New Hampshire’s largest city, recently voted to support refugee resettlement there.
